KOMUNIKASI LINGKUNGAN DALAM MEMBANGUN SISTEM PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH ORGANIK UNTUK BUDIDAYA MAGGOT (STUDI KASUS: RUMAH EDUKASI OC GRENPUL, KOTA TANGERANG)

Abstract

Traditional markets produce various types of organic waste that have the potential to be utilized as an economically valuable resource through sustainable management. Utilizing this potential requires communication, awareness, and involvement of various parties for an effective waste management system. In this context, the OC Grenpul Education House in Pasar Anyar, Tangerang City, developed an organic waste management system for maggot cultivation, which is then processed into economically viable fish feed through collaboration with market managers, traders, and cleaning staff. This study aims to analyze the environmental communication of the OC Grenpul Education House in developing an organic waste management system. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the environmental communication carried out by the OC Grenpul Education House carries out pragmatic and constitutive functions as proposed by Robert Cox. The pragmatic function is realized through socialization, education, face-to-face communication, and the use of social media to encourage community participation. The constitutive function is reflected in changes in the community's perspective on organic waste and waste as an economically valuable resource and the growing collective awareness of the importance of waste management. In its implementation, the program still faces several obstacles, including negative perceptions of maggot cultivation, limited facilities and funding, coordination between actors, and inconsistent waste sorting by vendors. Nevertheless, the environmental communication implemented has been able to support stakeholder engagement and strengthen sustainable waste management efforts.
